SBM Safety Solutions provide the following services.

We will visit your site and:

  • Carry out a Health and Safety Audit and produce an action plan
  • Draft a company policy including organisation and arrangements specific to your business
  • Assist with implementing your risk assessment programme
  • Act as your Health and Safety Advisor with access to our advisory service for 12 months

Policy Formulation

Option 1 - Including Site Visit
We will visit your site and draft a company Health and Safety policy, including organisation and arrangements specific to your business as required by Law. This comprehensive health and safety manual will serve as the back-bone of your health and safety management system, whether you are a large or small company. You will receive a hard copy and electronic version of your health and safety manual. During our time on site we will be available to offer any advice that you may require regarding your health and safety management arrangements.

Option 2 - Without Site Visit
As a more cost effective alternative you may wish to complete and return our comprehensive policy questionnaire which we will then use to draft a bespoke health and safety policy for you. The same stringent measures will be taken to ensure the policy manual is right for your business even though it is produced away from your site.

Risk Assessment

Risk assessment programme
We will visit your site and kick start your risk assessment programme. We will spend a full day with you on-site and take you through the process of hazard identification and risk assessment. We will also supply you with all the necessary forms to use for your records including electronic versions for your company database.

Other risk assessment services
We can also assist you with specific assessments where necessary e.g. Manual handling, Display Screen Equipment (DSE), COSHH, PPE, Noise, Young Workers, Pregnant Workers, Fire, PUWER (Work Equipment), Projects or other tasks.

The extent to which we are involved in your risk assessment programme very much depends on your needs. From a half day initial start-up, to a long term regular service – whatever works for you and your company!

Noise

We offer a range of services to assist with you with managing health and safety and environmental noise. From simple advice, assistance with risk assessment and noise surveys to help you comply with current legislation.

Workplace Noise Surveys
THE CONTROL OF NOISE AT WORK REGULATIONS 2005 - NOW IN FORCE. We have already assisted many company's in assessing their noise issues regarding compliance with these new regulations. We will visit your site and carry out a a noise measurement exercise to establish the levels to which your employees are exposed and whether new prescribed levels have been exceeded. The excercise will include evaluating personal levels of exposure including peak levels in order to comply with the new regulations. Measurements will also be taken in order to recommend appropriate hearing protection, again to comply with these regulations. You will then receive a comprehensive report within 14 days which will include a noise map (plan of your site), measurment data, noise exposure levels, noise sources, applicable photographs, appropriate hearing protection, a summary stating whether prescribed levels have been exceeded, and recommendations for applicable measures to manage noise.

Environmental Noise
We will visit your site and measure noise levels against background levels to establish whether noise is likely to give rise to complaints or where complaints have already been made. We also carry out environmental surveys for construction projects in regard to construction regulations - e.g. complience testing. British standard procedures are employed where applicable at all times.

Health Surveillance
There is a requirement to provide health surveillance where prescribed exposure levels are exceeded under the new Control of Noise at Work Regulations. This usually takes the form of audiometric (hearing) tests. We can provide assistance to meet this requirement.

Asbestos

We offer several services to help you comply with the Asbestos at Work Regs 2002 (particularly Regulation 4 and the duty to manage):

  • Type, 1,2,3 Surveys and report to MDHS100
  • Drafting of asbestos register (usually with type 1 survey included)
  • Asbestos management plan
  • Or a combination

Inspection (Health and Safety Review)

We will visit your site and carry out an overview of your systems and controls including a ‘walk-through’ survey. The inspection is not as in depth as the full audit but will provide you with an excellent report with which to kick start your health and safety programme, check compliance, or to check your systems and controls.

Health and Safety Audit

We will visit your site and carry out a systematic check of your policy, procedures and controls. We will check compliance, hazards and unsafe acts or conditions. We will also carry out a comprehensive ‘walk-through’ survey. We will then prepare a confidential report on the findings with advice and guidance on actions to take and including an action plan. The idea of the audit is to bring the company up to speed with Health and Safety Regulations and good industry practice. We recommend that audits are carried out at least annually.

Competent Persons Scheme

The Management of Health and Safety Regulations 1999 require employers to appoint a competent person(s) for health and safety advice. In many organisations it is sometimes difficult to fill this position internally. Our Competent Person service will help you fill this skills gap. Our service is suitable for all sizes of organisations.

We will:

  • Visit your site and carry out a Health and Safety Audit and produce an action plan
  • Act as your Health and Safety Advisor with access to our advisory service
  • Arrange extra visits where necessary
